What happened in episode one of Landscapers?

In the first episode of Landscapers, we saw Susan talking to her lawyer. Then, we went back in time and saw her and her partner, Christopher, and Susan in France, where they had moved after the murders of Patricia and William Wycherley. They’re having a hard time making ends meet because Christopher can’t get a job and Susan spends their money on movie memorabilia.

Christopher goes against Susan’s advice and calls his stepmother, Tabitha, to ask for money. On the call, he tells Tabitha that they were involved in the death of the Wycherleys, even though he asked her not to tell the police.

In Britain, police from Nottinghamshire go to the former home of the Wycherleys. After interviewing the current resident and his neighbor, they dug up the garden and found two bodies. They also found bullets from both of them.

As they live in another country, it is more difficult to arrest the couple, and the police need a lot more proof that Susan and Christopher were the ones who did it in order to charge them. The DCI sends Christopher an email inviting him back to England for a personal interview about the case. Christopher politely replies but says that their return to England will be difficult.

Susan doesn’t take the news of the investigation well at first, but Christopher convinces her that the best thing to do is to return and help with the investigation, so she does. The police make sure the couple can get home, and they have a team ready to bring them to the station at London St Pancras International rail station.

What happened in episode two of Landscapers?

With the Edwardses in police custody, the main focus of episode two is on them talking to the police. Susan starts by following her lawyer’s advice to the letter. She mostly responds with “no comment.”

In a police statement, Susan says that the day before her parents were shot, she went to Mansfield by coach. Susan says that her mother, Patricia, shot her father one evening. She says that she had to shoot Patricia when her mother tried to turn the gun on her and she tried to fight back. Susan also says that Christopher was in London over the weekend, so he couldn’t have been a part of it in any way.

Christopher is questioned by two officers and doesn’t get any legal help. As he told it to him, he stayed in Dagenham and went up to meet Susan a week later. She told him that she had been keeping the bodies wrapped in duvets under the bed.

People who work on the case don’t believe them. DC tried to look at the case in a new way. Asks if she and her partner, Detective Chief Paul Wilkie, can do both interviews. They get permission, and they start playing Susan and Christopher’s stories off of each other to find flaws in their stories. Susan gets angry when she learns that Christopher doesn’t have a lawyer with him.

It turns out that the day after Susan was shot, she opened up a joint account with her mother and took out almost half of the money in cash. Financial forensics officer Sandra Winters found this important piece of evidence. Emma uses this to push the couple. She asks if they planned to kill Susan’s parents to get money from them.

Susan doesn’t do as well as Christopher does when Emma and Paul put more pressure on her and her friends to do better. She starts to go against her lawyer’s advice and shares more information about the case. When Susan talks about the night of the murder, though, she slips up and says that Christopher helped her bury the bodies in the garden.

At different points in the episode, we also see flashbacks of Christopher and Susan on a date, the first time Susan spent the night at his house, and Susan trying to keep Christopher from seeing her family.

What happened in episode three of Landscapers?

Interviews with the police keep going even though some of the officers don’t believe them when they say they didn’t do anything that night. The people ask Christopher to explain why he said that Susan was “fragile” and that they had a lot of classic movie memorabilia that the couple thought was worth a lot more than it was, even though they were in debt.

In a flashback, Christopher tells us that the Wycherleys were never nice to Susan, and he tells us how they made her give up the share she had at her parents’ house. This is what we see in the story.

Emma and Paul also question Christopher about why he let Susan go up to visit her parents alone if he knew they were abusive to her, even though he knew. He still says he was in London on the night of the murders, but he doesn’t know for sure where.

Paul gives Christopher a set of wedding photos. William Wycherley doesn’t appear in any of them, which Christopher says is because he doesn’t like the couple. It was Tabitha who told the police that Christopher was very sad about the death of his mother and brother. Susan was only able to get him to like her by pretending to be French actor Gerard Depardieu and writing fake letters from him for Christopher.

Christopher tells Emma and Paul that Susan couldn’t have killed her parents because she’s afraid of guns. It’s at this point that he reveals that he used to own guns and be a member of a gun club.

Susan is briefly brought back in for questioning. Emma then leads her through a fourth-wall-breaking recreation of how the police think the couple killed each other.

During the interview, Susan gets very emotional and tries to tell them that the gun was her father, not Christopher’s. The interview is cut short. The department is happy to have solved the double murder case.

What happened in episode four of Landscapers?

Episode four sees Susan’s love of Westerns clash with the real world. For example, we see them on screen in a western movie that serves as an analogy for how the real murder of Patricia and William Wycherley is thought to have worked out, and how Nottinghamshire police were able to finally close in on the couple.

During their trial, their story is slowly dismantled. The Wycherleys would have been killed by someone who knew how to use a revolver, and Christopher admits that he used to own a revolver that could have taken the same number of rounds as the ones used to kill them. In 1995, he says he gave up his guns and his firearms certificate.

Cowboy Susan and her husband, Christopher, are making a last stand against Nottinghamshire police officers in the fantasy. As the case against them grows, so does the pressure. The jury is especially shocked when they see Christopher shooting in the courtroom in a practiced way.

Susan is asked what she did with the gun and the casings that she has always said were found at the scene when she was there. It is revealed that a weapon of this type doesn’t fire casings, which seems to show that she made up the fact she fired the gun at her mother. We also saw them burn their photos and memories outside their home in France. A lawyer also points out this as proof that Susan was trying to get rid of any remembrances or memories of her parents.

They talk outside of court after Susan breaks down on the stand. : She says that she wrote the letters that Gerard Depardieu sent to Christopher. Because Douglas tried to help her as much as possible, she says he will keep this case in mind when he grows up.

The couple is told what they must do. Before they ride off into the sunset on horseback, Christopher writes a note to Susan from his cell. He says how much he loves her, and then they ride off into the sunset together.
